Insurance
When you register your child with the MJFC, your child is automatically covered by the MSJFL’s Personal Injury Insurance when he or she is participating in an official Club match, training session, or function. Protection for your child whilst travelling to or from any of these events is also provided. The insurance is underwritten by JLT. Should an injury occur, the insurance will cover costs associated with non-Medicare items such as ambulance, physiotherapy, dental, chiropractic and private hospital accommodation. The insurance does NOT cover items that are claimable under Medicare i.e. the fees associated with a doctor, surgeon, surgeon’s assistant, anaesthetist, x-rays, MRI scans (in some cases) and public hospital costs It is important to note that as required by Government legislation, the insurance does NOT cover the Medicare gap. For example, if your child needs to visit a doctor as a result of a football injury, and the Doctor charges you say $45 for a short consultation, Medicare provides a rebate of say $15.35 (actual will be per the Medical Benefits Schedule) and therefore you are out of pocket $29.65. You CANNOT claim this gap under the insurance. There are several criteria that void the insurance coverage, the most relevant to the MJFC being if your child plays against medical advice or has a pre existing injury or illness. If you need to make a claim, you can access the claim form from the JLT website http://www.jltsport.com.au/afl/claim_pi.aspx which you should complete and send in as soon as possible as most policies have a time limit in which you can submit your claim form. If you need assistance with any matter related to this insurance, please do not hesitate to contact the club’s Risk Management committee member (vice-president).
